Wedding Ceremonies
The Abbotsford Convent presents a graceful and ambient
setting for romantic weddings and unique celebrations.
The manicured
Heritage Gardens are a picturesque backdrop for civil ceremonies, with the convenience of slipping
away to have gorgeous photographs taken in a range of enchanting locations.
Both the gardens and the buildings of the Abbotsford Convent
are of national heritage significance.
With a range of picture perfect backdrops there is something here for everyone. Below we recommend six stunning spots
throughout the gardens, ideal for your ceremony.
The Heritage Rotunda – This is a real focal point
for the natural amphitheatre shaped grounds.
With the most impressive angle of the
Convent
Building , the imposing backdrop is unsurpassed.
The Heritage Quercus Oak
(English Oak) Tree
– The Heritage Oak was planted upon the separation of
Victoria from
New South Wales
in 1851. It provides an impressive
full canopy.
The Rose Bed – Incorporating the Convent building as a backdrop, this
area is nestled in the corner closest
to the Rosina building boasting one of the three original rose beds. Limited seating can be arranged as the lawn is sloped.
The
Herb Garden – This is a very intimate
area nestled at the bottom of the gardens.
The meandering path secreted by foliage, splits briefly and is filled with a fragrant
herb patch. All guests have an un-obscured
view on the lower side of the path and the bride can enter through a section of
the garden to meet her groom. Up to
30 guests can be seated and 100 standing.
The Baby Oak – Directly below the Bishop’s
Forecourt, this is a charming spot and the canopy of the oak makes an ideal ceremony
location. Limited seating can be arranged
as the lawn is sloped.
These are just a few spots
within the gardens that incorporate the imposing architecture of the Convent building. Magnificent backdrops for wedding photos
can be found at every turn.
For a completely private ceremony the Rosina Courtyard
can be transformed, with the Rosina Function Space then only a few steps away for
the celebrations to continue.
